“As a child I was determined to become a veterinarian. Raised in an animal loving family, this was not very suprising. My parents always supported my horseriding. At this moment, I don’t have so much time to do competitions anymore, but in the past I competed at Z level dressage and showjumping.

After highschool, I decided to change plans. I went to the International Physiotherapy Academy ‘Thim van der Laan’, and I still don’t regret this choice. Physiotherapy turned out to be my real passion. Although I knew I would specialize in equine treatment later on, I enjoyed human treatment in every way. Four years later I passed my practical exams with credit.

I started working as a (human) physiotherapist in a health center. I worked here for four years and learned a lot about all kind of injuries and sportsmedicine. In these days I also started my specialism study Animal Physiotherapy. After two years I passed with credit on my practical exams and started my own practice for dogs and horses. After combining those two jobs, I decided to stop at the human practice and become a fulltime animal physiotherapist, because of my growing customer base.

At the end of 2005 I participated on the International course ‘Focus on the Equine Spine’, which is only for vets and animal physiotherapists. In 2007 I passed with credit on my advanced course practical exams, and got the title “equine chiropractor”.

Because of my growing interest in equine medicine, I only treat (sport)horses nowadays. About fifty percent of the horses I treat, are referred to me by a vet. The other treatments are preventive. The variety in horses and their injuries, and my cooperation with the veterinary world, is what makes my job very interesting.

Personally, I think it’s very important to spread knowledge. Thats why I train students at the chiropractic course FES and the reason that I am an examinator for this course. Besides that, I give lectures and workshops.”

Denise de Wilde

Animal Physiotherapy
Equine Manual Therapy (AEB)

During her externship at our practice in the past years, Denise and Dewi spend a lot of time together. Because they work by the same vision, motivation and both get along well with our clients and their horses, Dewi and Denise decided to team up their practices. Denise has a wide interest in equine orthopedics and likes to work with performance horses, as well as leisure horses. Her goal is to help the horse, but also the rider, to become (or stay) a happy athlete.

“Ever since I was a little girl, I was fascinated by equestrian sports. I started competing in dressage, showjumping and became Dutch champion driving with a Welsh pony stallion.

In 2003 I completed my Physiotherapy education in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Immediately after graduation, I was asked to teach at two courses at the University: ‘General Physiotherapy’ and ‘Ergonomics’. After that I worked at several places, among which Papendal Topsportcenter, where I gained lots of experience with various (sport)disorders and rehabilitation.

Later I followed the specialization course Animal Physiotherapy.  To gain more experience during this course, I did an externship for 2 years with Dewi and followed several courses and in natural horsemanship and dressage, and became a certified coach.

Because we see a lot of cases with spinal related problems, I decided to follow a Manual Therapy course in England to specialize myself.

For me a horse is an athlete, no matter what his education or purpose is. For that reason I want to keep developing myself to be able to optimize your horses treatment.”
